Wheat and Rice export from India 2021:The commerce ministry said, “Wheat was not exported to these seven countries in the year 2018-19 and only four tonnes of food grains were exported in the year 2019-20.
India has started exporting cereals such as rice and wheat to new destinations including Puerto Rico, Yemen and Poland with the aim of increasing agricultural exports. The Ministry of Commerce gave this information on Monday. India sent consignments of non-basmati rice to nine countries, including Timor-Leste, Puerto Rico, Papua New Guinea, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Eswatini and Nicaragua. These places were exported for the first time or the consignment of earlier exports was of less quantity and smaller.

The total quantity of rice exports to these nine countries was 197 tonnes in the year 2019-20 and has increased to 1.53 lakh tonnes in the year 2020-21. Similarly, India has exported substantial quantities of food grains during the year 2020-21 to seven new countries – Yemen, Indonesia, Bhutan, Philippine, Iran, Cambodia and Myanmar.
The commerce ministry said, “Wheat was not exported to these seven countries in the year 2018-19 and only four tonnes of food grains were exported in the year 2019-20. The quantum of wheat exports to these countries increased to 1.48 lakh tonnes in the year 2020-21.
In the case of export of cereals other than rice and wheat, India sent the rest of the grains to new destinations like Sudan, Poland, Bolivia, Colombia, Congo and Ghana in the year 2020-21.
The ministry said, “India’s total exports of food grains have seen a huge increase in the year 2020-21. Where the export of non-basmati rice increased by 136.04 percent to $ 479.454 million. At the same time, wheat increased by 774.17 percent to $ 5491.6 million. Other cereals (millet, maize and other coarse cereals) rose 238.28 per cent to $69.144 million.
