Clusters selected for the experimental phase

Shopian of Jammu and Kashmir and Kinnaur of Himachal have been selected for apple in the clusters of experimental stage. Whereas, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, Kutch in Gujarat and Mahbubnagar in Telangana have been elected for mango.

Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh and Theni in Tamil Nadu have been chosen for bananas. Nashik of Maharashtra has been selected for grapes and Sipahijala for pineapple.

Solapur in Maharashtra and Chitradurga in Karnataka have been chosen by the government for pomegranate. Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills has been selected for turmeric. This program is designed to take advantage of the geographical features, integrate horticulture clusters and promote horticulture as per the market demand.

The government intends to implement this program in all the clusters in the next 5 to 7 years. The government hopes that with this step, the export of horticulture products will increase by 20 percent.

Under this program, efforts will be made to improve its global competitiveness by establishing end-to-end connectivity with the use of multi-modal transport. Under this program, the government wants to make radical changes in the Horticulture Department.
