Giving information in this regard on Saturday, Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) tweeted and said, ‘Sweet and delicious Jamun fruit, popularly known as Indian Blackberry, obtained from farmers of Bithoor, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The first consignment is being exported to London by air. It is being shipped through APEDA registered exports.

Jamun is a popular fruit in India. It is produced on a large scale in many states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. It bears fruits in the summer months and it starts ripening after one or two good rains. Horticultural farmers earn extra income from Jamun fruit.

Recently, Sapota was exported from Palghar in Maharashtra. It is said about Indian Sapota that this fruit is known for its sweet and unique taste. It is believed that the chikoo here gets its unique taste from the calcium rich soil of Gholvad village. The popular name of Sapota in India is Chiku.

Presently, Chiku is being cultivated on 5000 acres of land in Palghar district and about 5000 farmers are associated with this work. Dahanu Gholvad Sapota received from farmers is sorted and graded in a pack house aided by APEDA at Tapi, Gujarat. After this, the export work is done from here.

Apart from Sapota, India had recently exported mangoes to many countries including South Africa. The consignment of jackfruit was sent from Bangalore to Germany while the famous jackfruit of Tripura was exported to London.
